Cena Dunaja - Prix Danube 2010
Distinguished colleagues and friends
Slovak Television is organizing a special 20th Prix Danube festival on 21-24 October 2010, to be held in a modified form. The festival is being held under the auspices of the Minister of Culture of the Slovak Republic Mgr. Daniel Krajcer.
On this occasion it will take the form of a screening of selected programmes combined with a media education conference and presentation of exceptional selected audiovisual works of art aimed specifically at a children’s audience.
The conference, with the presentation of media education programmes, will be held on 21-22 October 2010 with the participation of foreign and local experts and creators of programmes for children and young people on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the entry into force of the Convention on the Rights of the Child. The Convention was adopted by the UN General Assembly.
This year’s PRIX DANUBE 2010 will be one of the events contributing to the implementation of the Concept of Media Education in the Slovak Republic. This Concept was adopted by Government Resolution No. 923 of 16 December 2009. The presentation of programmes themed towards media education will accord with the Pre-requisites for Functioning of the Media Education System, chapter 4.1., paragraphs f) and g) – participation of mass media in the activities and programmes related to media education. Exposure to foreign experience will be an important platform.
In this way, Slovak Television enters into an active working dialogue with local and foreign media companies and experts.
We have prepared an offering of remarkable films within the 20th anniversary of the non-competition PRIX DANUBE festival for the general public – children, youth and adults – which are going to be screened in the Mlados cinema. Amongst others we will show the profile of the phenomenal and world-renowned Russian artist and director of animated films for children and adults, Garri Bardin from the Stayer Studio. We invite children and adults to come to view his fresh musical films without words. Garri Bardin was awarded the Prix Danube 2005. We will also screen his latest film which he recently presented at the Locarno festival in Switzerland.
We will screen e.g. the latest full-length animated film from the Studio of Animated Films in Bielsko-Biala and a collection of programmes for children and young people from Poland and others.
With regard to Slovak works, we will show films from several generations of animators and a new Slovak animated film will be given its pre-premiere screening. We will also offer a selection of Prix Danube winning programmes.
Slovak Television will commemorate the 20th PRIX DANUBE festival by a gala evening, to be broadcast on the evening of 24 October. Creators, directors, dramaturges, actors and protagonists of the winning programmes for children and youth will attend the gala evening.
As part of the festival’s anniversary, Slovak Television will broadcast several blocs of the winning programmes from several PRIX DANUBE festivals, programmes and films for children and young people from the Slovak Television Golden Fund and other thematic programmes; these will include, for instance, a discussion in the cyclic programme “An Evening on…” which will be dedicated to media education and production of programmes for children and young people.
Slovak Television is the main organizer of the festival.
We cordially invite you to all the events of the 20th PRIX DANUBE!
